    1. Tourmaline is the second novel by author James Brogden.Brogden faces quite a challenge due to the success of his debut novel, The Narrows. He set the bar so high with his first publication and must now follow his own critically-acclaimed, accomplished piece of writing. As with any second novel, fans want to see everything they loved about The Narrows but they also demand something new and improved. As such, Tourmaline was set to be Brogden’s difficult second album.Suffice it to say, Brogden ha [...]

    2. “Tourmaline” is a book which keeps you guessing, with twists and turns around every corner as the story unfolds in an ever-increasing whirlpool of fantasy horror juxtaposed against a near future Birmingham.Throughout “Tourmaline" you’ll laugh, squirm, gawp and pull a slightly repulsed face, the deeper you get into the story. It’s the kind of book that even a few pages in, you find yourself to be absorbed by. Brogden’s characters are superbly developed, each with enough back story to [...]

    3. Uiuuuuuuuhhhh, it took me so long and i even skipped the last 20 pages, i didnt get what was going on half of the time. I liked the description from the book and the idea was cool but nothing more

    4. How to review a book about dreams when I don’t dream? For me, sleeping is the great blank, the slip into non-being in between the daylight bouts of consciousness. If death is sleep, my sleep, then it can hold no real terrors for me (although I don’t believe it is like my sleeping). That’s not to say I never dream, just very rarely. Unfortunately, my dreams, when they do occur, are nothing like the wonder and terror-strewn dreams of Tourmaline, but genuinely, undeniably boring: has anybody [...]

    5. This book, published last year, is about realities, alternate realities, altered realities, imagined and projected realities. Of multiple personalities and ever-changing perceptions. Ultimately, it’s about how nothing ever changes in essence. We are what we are, whether we like or recognise that fact, or not.Set between the streets and universities of Birmingham, where perving security guards not only get their come-uppance but finds his inner man living inside his dream in Tourmaline; a water [...]

    6. This is a book which is anchored in our own world, but we get to explore its counterpart in Tourmaline, the world of dreams. So many things about it are familiar-sounding but not quite right, which beautifully evokes the feeling you sometimes get when you awake from a dream that seemed so solid a moment agoThe characters are very nicely formed. The two male protagonists are seriously out of their comfort zone, constantly on the back foot while they find out how things really are. We have an exce [...]

    7. I saved this book to totally absorb on holiday after reading the Narrows a couple of years in the same position earlier. I was so eager to open up the book and discover another world created by James Brogden, the vastly talented author. I was not disappointed. From the first page to the last, the journey kept me totally engrossed. Broden again created a world of likeable characters, a great story and perfect pacing. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially if you have a love of Neil Gai [...]

    8. This is a book of love, adventure, and nightmares. It's quite fast paced so you have to be really on the ball. I feel like this book challenges you as a reader, but that isn't always a bad thing. If you like a challenge, and you're fantasy book mad like me then I recommend reading it.

    9. This was a really original and well written book. I loved the worlds and characters that the writer created in this book. I think the book deserves to be better known to people than it is now.

    10. 3.5/5 starsThis was such an interesting book. The premise was really cool - in your dreams you enter another world and can affect the events there, and the plot and adventure that ensues was very engrossing. At first, I was a little confused, but after the first couple chapters it started to come together. I really enjoyed the intricacies of the plot and how everything fit together. The world created by Brogden was so cool. I like how he incorporated Tourmaline and the Realt together. How he exp [...]
