1 thought on “Nobody's Nosier Than a Cat

    1. This book has a wonderfully written repetitive phrasing that describes the characteristics of dogs in a very humorous way. The short verses are perfect for reading aloud to children. It is also and easy enough for beginning readers to handle the reading of the text on their own. The illustrations are simply but creatively done and also tell a fun story on their own story. Readers may notice that there is a dachshund chases a black cat through each of the scenes. This cute little dog (much like o [...]

    2. I don't even know where to starte poetry is bouncy and jolly, the vocabulary is both rich and absurdly silly, and the observations are keenly accurate, humorous and poignant. The illustrations are just as riche dogs have wonderful expressions, bold backgrounds, and a whole subplot of the lst dog and his owner -eventually reunited-which provide a context for the snippets in the poem of the relationship between man and dog. This is a true masterpiece. And it is perfect for children. You will read [...]

    3. A wonderful book in terms of how it layers the tale together.Dogs are fairly amazing in terms of how physiologically diverse they are, all within the same species. That a mastiff and a chihuahua are the same species is even more amazing than the wide spectrum of humanity. The primary images and narrative illustrate how incredibly different dogs can be, while the secondary storyline continues to progress in the background. (view spoiler)[Then, at the very end, some St. Elsewhere stuff is dropped [...]

    4. Genre: Picture book Reading Level: grade 1-3Topics & Themes: read aloudCurricular Use:Rhyming bookSocial: The book talks about a nosey cat and at the end of the book it shows that they love their nosey lap cat.Literary Elements: This book is a tongue twister and repeats the nosier cat phrase throughout the book.Text & Pictures:I like the illustrations within the text but I don't like how the words are placed randomly throughout the pages. It makes the book a little hard for children to r [...]

    5. The story and text are cute, but the illustrations didn't always match up. In the "Happier" page, they show the boy's dog looking very sad while getting nabbed by the dog catcher. Not a happy sight. A lot of the dogs looked downright mean, even on pages that were supposed to be praising dogs. Also, if this book is about praising a dog and sometimes laughing at the naughty things they do, why have the nobody's scarier page? It didn't seem to fit with the theme of the story.

    6. So cute and fun to read aloud! The kids aww'd at the cute descriptors and eww'd at the gross but funny ones.Cool narrative structure too: there's the surface level, internal-rhyming description of different kinds of dogs that is just adorable and fun-sounding, and then there is a meta-story of dog being chased, caught and found by his owner that runs throughout the other pages.

    7. I choose this book because it is a good topic for children to discuss animals especially dog lover. This book tells what a dog do such as digging in the dirt, keeping a watery mouth etc. I can use this book as a discussion warm up or a writing brain storm to encourage students to find characters of their favorite pets.

    8. This colorful text moves and takes on a personality of its own as the book focuses on many different cat characteristics, from nosier to spookier and cosier to kookier. A tongue twister to read aloud.

    9. A fun, adjective laden book describing dog qualities. If you've ever had dogs or been around dogs you can definitely appreciate this book.

    10. There is a pretty funny premise behind this book and the cat book, but the real star of both of these books is the artwork.

    11. This book is for dog lovers. This was a great book to explain why we can't just let our dog roam alone outdoors. My son loved the part about drinking from the toilet.

    12. Mommy says: This author knows cats -- and loves them. Any cat-lover will smile at Bartoletti's sing songy prose about cat habits.

    13. Cat lovers will relate to every description of the cats in this story, whether nosier, coaxier, dozier or naughtier.

    14. There is a pretty funny premise behind this book and the dog book, but the real star of both of these books is the artwork.

    15. I do not want to diminish Bartoletti's writing, which is sharp, fun and quick, but the illustrations in this book (by Italian-born and educated Beppe Giacobbe) are outstanding.
