    1. Gonzalo Grabs the Good Life by Janice Levy, is a book about a rooster named Gonzalo who wins the lottery and decides to leave the farm he works at. Gonzalo decides he must live the good life after all he did win the lottery so he buys all sorts of luxury. Eventually Gonzalo runs out of money and he realizes he is not actually living the good life. After singing at a church and having a bad dream Gonzalo decides to go back to the farm because really that is his good life. A major theme in this bo [...]

    2. The kids and I both enjoyed this story about a rooster that didn't recognize the good life he had until he didn't have it any longer. The pictures in this book seemed to have a little bit of a muddy palette--both kids had some problems making out what was going on in the pictures. At one point my niece wanted to know why Gonzalo ate candy as his primary food in his good life (he did not escape the consequences of this dietary choice), and my nephew straightened her out. "Well," he said, "candy i [...]

    3. There is a good lesson in this book--what appears to be the "good life" may not prove to be in real life. Gonzalo is tired of his life on the farm, and when he wins the lottery, he leaves for the "good life." After living in luxury, partying it up, and turning to religion, he discovers something very important about the good life. I think this book will speak to grades 3-6, those readers old enough to have some experience with disappointment and wanting something better, only to find it is in yo [...]

    4. Recommended by kids for NYRA 2013, this is an excellent book about life's lessons. A rooster wins the lottery and leaves his owner in order to search for the good life. At the end, he realizes that happiness is where he originally was, doing what he does best: crow on the top of the roof at sunrise. Gonzalo is a Spanish-speaking rooster and there are Spanish words scattered throughout the story. I will use it for my next Hispanic-related storytime (Dia de los Ninos or National Hispanic Heritage [...]

    5. Is there a 1.5? Maybe I'm not in the mood to look at books. Again, I thought this might be funny. Gonzalo is looking for a more exciting life than he can find on the farm, crowing every morning. Does anyone know what happens next or at the end? yep, I'm going to spoil this and tell you he finds out that there is no place like home where he can crow as he wishes. . . (insert raspberries here.)

    6. How to put in a catagory. Gonzalo the rooster wants to leave the farm in search of the good life. He bought a mansion in miami; he went to live "la vida loca" in hollywood; he found relgion but nothing was good enough so he went back home.

    7. After winning the lottery Gonzalo thinks it is time to leave the farm and go for the better life. He falls into the traps of others who have one too much money. Ages 5+
