    6. Great book couldn't put it down and read it in one weekend, of course not getting anything else done, but was worth all the dust left in the houseEnjoyable and entertaining Well enjoyed Village of Sycamore that I had to pick it up and read it again, so enlightening and full of special characters Ok finished this once again, back on my shelf only to wonder when I'll pick it up and read it once more. Excellent

    7. I loved this book. I got it couple of days ago and red it immediately. Lots of laughs and really nicely written. I also reviewed it in :)

    8. I received the best Xmas present - Village of Sycamore. The weather was bad, cold and windy and I just did not want to go out and fight the elements. Instead, I curled up on my couch and read the VIllage of Sycamore by Maria Rihte. The book saved my otherwise weather-ruined holiday and I found myself laughing and smiling. I loved the village she had created. I loved the characters she described so well - the lovely ones and of course, to keep the balance, the bad ones as well. She describes thes [...]

    9. I noticed this book on the Choice awards 2010 list and I though to give it ago, especially when it just happened to be in a bookstore near me. Talking about coincidences. The beautiful cover just grabbed my attention on the shelf at the store and the cover wasn't the only beautiful surprise - the novel itself was a wonderful wonderful surprise with its incredible vast variety of characters - some you love and some you hate, naturally. I really do not know what took me so long to buy this book, [...]

    10. My friend who gave this to me for a birthday present was right - I could not put it down. I was lost in the strange world of Village of Sycamore as soon as I opened this book. incredible line of characters…some funnier and stranger than others. The book also gave me information about full-time artist's life, whichisn't exactly what I thought it would be. Being an artist is hard work.It is a wonderful novel by a debut author. Beautifully written, great twisted plot, lots of laughter and it is s [...]

    11. My friend suggested that I read this book and was she right or what?? I laughed and laughed and laughed till my sides hurt. The characters were so real, so well described that I could almost imagine the pub they were sitting and I could almost see the island the writer talks about. It gave me a completely new view into the art and craft world. It must so difficult to make a living as an artist.I think Maria Rihte will become the new Marian Keyes, because I could not put her Village of Sycamore dow [...]

    12. Ooh la laa…what a amazing debut novel. I rather stayed home and read this crawled in my bed with a glass of wine than went out to a party on Friday night.I just could not put it down. I had to find out how it was going to end and what Jackie was going to do and if the studio tour was going to be a success.I loved that island and I loved the characters - well perhaps not Rosalind. Who could like her? Even her husband had hard time loving her.I don't think I can say enough for this book. I would [...]

    13. A quiet tale of a woman organizing a studio tour of artisans in the village. It left me strangely detached as some of the novels of Maeve Binchy do. The humor seemed to revolve around drunks in the pub. A drunken bicycle accident in the middle of the night was presented as source of great hilarity. Characters are one-dimensional, with their one personally-identifiable characteristic exploited thoroughly, with never an attempt to explain why they felt or acted that way. The story instead skimmed [...]

    14. I loved the cover and that what got my attention. The novel itself was fantastic. I love art and characters who a bit different and this book is full of them. Though they are all so believable and you know that they exist…I have my favourite pages marked and I love to reread them, just to cheer myself once in awhile. Rosalind and Russell - the two incredible funny characters. And then Thomas - I can imagine him blowing glass in his studio. The author describes the art scenes so truthfully, but [...]

    15. My friend suggested this book. I have never heard of Maria Rihte before, because she is a debut author. What a pleasant surprise. Village of Sycamore is beautifully written, full of crazy characters that you end up loving with all your heart - well except one of them….I won't tell you who…you'll find out soon enough.I laughed. I giggled and then I laughed some more.It is the perfect book to read while the weather is cold and nasty ( though I might bring with me when I go for beach holiday)I l [...]

    16. Absolutely great book. Amazing debut. Great characters, nicely twisted plot - it keeps you on your toes and you just cannot put it down once you start reading it. While at work I found myself thinking about the people on that island and I was reading it while travelling in a crowded bus, wondering what people might think of me…because I almost burst out laughing. I miss that island already. One of those books that you are eager to finish and then when you do finish it, you are profoundly sad, [...]

    17. The best gift I have ever been given. What a fun read, perfect setting and many many lovable characters. I did not wnat to put this book down- many sleepless nights and puffy eyes the next morning- well worth it. Full of life, love and laughter - and yes a couple of nasty characters as well - got to have the 'life balance'. I recommend it to everybody who would like to escape the everyday grind and feel happy.

    18. A suggestion from my friend. I love the painting on the cover and I found myself looking at the cover, imagining the island it depicts. Great book - very entertaining. I was skeptical at fist, but I suddenly I would found myself laughing out loud.Excellent debut novel! It just has that something special.

    19. Excellent debut novel. Interesting plot- great characters, wonderful insight into the world of art. I would love to visit that island one day and sit in that pub. The best reading choice for that special, slow, never ending rainy day, when you feeling blue. And a beautiful cover! The novel is about art and therefore the cover is perfect!

    20. What a great debut novel! Incredibly real and entertaining characters…Russell and Rosalind! They made me laugh so hard. Entertaining dialog and a captivating plot!
